The request for the selection of the baby’s sex has grown rapidly in recent years, in part due to our increased knowledge about genetic diseases. As some genetic diseases only occur in male children, a couple that has genetic mutations of these types of diseases, can choose to have only female babies. Due to our ability to assess the genetic quality of embryos before implantation, we can use pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) to reduce the risk of inherited diseases in children.
